Ingredients

Servings
  • 5-7 pounds ham bone-in, smoked
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cloves ground
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. Place ham cut-side down in a baking dish just large enough to fit it. Add 1?2 cup apple juice to the bottom of the dish.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, mustard, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Brush glaze all over the ham, coating completely.
  3. Pour remaining 1/2 cup apple juice into the bottom of the dish around the ham.
  4. Cover the dish tightly with foil. Bake for about 2 hours, basting with juices every 30 minutes.
  5. Remove foil and broil ham for 5-7 minutes to caramelize glaze.
  6. Remove from the oven and tent with foil for 15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Basting every 30 minutes ensures even glaze coverage and moisture retention. I highly recommend not skipping this important step!
  • Giving the ham a quick run under the hot broiler at the end gives the glaze a chance to caramelize and get all golden and crispy.
  • Letting rest wrapped in foil before slicing allows juices to redistribute evenly. Don't skip this step either.
