Easy Air Fryer Lasagna
Description
The Easy Air Fryer Lasagna starts with a homemade white sauce crafted from a roux of butter and flour, gradually blended with milk, and enriched with garlic, mustard, salt, nutmeg, and Parmesan cheese. Separately, ground beef is sautéed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt, then simmered in marinara sauce until bubbling and flavorful.
The lasagna is assembled in a greased square baking dish that fits inside the air fryer, layering meat sauce, white sauce, fresh lasagna sheets, and shredded mozzarella cheese. Cooking in an air fryer at 180°C yields a lasagna with tender pasta cooked evenly and melting cheeses, offering a convenient alternative to oven baking.
This approach suits cooks with smaller kitchen appliances or those wanting to prepare a manageable lasagna batch without heating a full oven. The air fryer method yields a compact yet satisfying layered pasta dish with classic Italian flavors.
Ingredients
For the white sauce
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups whole milk 500ml
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- pinch nutmeg freshly grated
- 3 tbsp Parmesan Cheese grated
For the meat sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef 450g, aka beef mince, lean
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp mixed Italian herbs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 lb 10 oz (737) jar marinana sauce (I used Gefen)
To assemble
- 10 lasagna sheets or as needed (1 pack, fresh
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese 225g, shredded
- 3 tbsp Parmesan Cheese grated
- cooking oil to grease baking dish
Instructions
MAKE THE WHITE SAUCE
- Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour and stir to make a roux. Cook for a minute or then start gradually adding the milk, stirring constantly to incorporate it into the sauce.
- Stir in the garlic powder, mustard powder and salt.
- Once all the milk has been added you can stir in the grated Parmesan and season with freshly grated nutmeg. Set the sauce aside so it can cool down and thicken.
PREPARE THE MEAT SAUCE
- Preheat the air fryer to 180°C / 350°F for 3 minutes. Add olive oil to a pan that fits in your air fryer (I used my Tefal ingenio pots that have removable handles). Stir in the ground beef, garlic powder, salt and Italian seasoning. Cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring, until beef has browned.
- Add the marinara sauce. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring halfway, or until the sauce is bubbling.
ASSEMBLE THE LASAGNA
- Grease an 8-inch square baking dish (or anything of similar size that fits in your air fryer) with olive oil. Add a layer of meat sauce and spread it to cover the bottom of your dish.
- Top with lasagna noodles, cutting them to fit as needed. Spread another layer of meat sauce over the pasta then spoon some of the white sauce over it. Sprinkle with a little mozzarella and repeat until you have used all of the red sauce.
- Use all the remaining white sauce to top the lasagna then sprinkle with grated Parmesan and mozarella cheese.
AIR FRY YOUR LASAGNA
- Cover the top of the lasagna with foil, making sure it is either clipped or wrapped around the bottom of your dish so it doesn't fly off.
- Cook for 25 minutes at 180°C (350°F) then carefully remove the foil and continue to cook for a further 5-10 minutes at 160° (325°F), checking to make sure the top is not browning too quickly.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
- Allow the lasagna to cool down in the air fryer basket until you can easily lift it out. Leave it to stand for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving with a side salad and some garlicky dough balls.
