The mix of tender vegetables and chunks of ham offer both substance and warmth in every spoonful.

Description

Easy and Comforting Ham and Potato Soup brings together medium-diced potatoes and cooked ham with celery and onion for a classic combination. These ingredients simmer gently in chicken broth until they soften, forming the base of the soup. A separate roux made by melting butter and cooking flour briefly is blended with milk and stirred into the soup to create a smooth, creamy consistency without heaviness.

The flavor is straightforward, with the ham adding a smoky note and the black pepper enhancing the mild, comforting profile. The cooking method involves simmering steps paired with a whisked milk mixture to avoid lumps and ensure even thickness.

This soup can be served as a main dish alongside bread or crackers, providing a filling and satisfying meal. It’s particularly suited for cooler weather or whenever simple comfort food is desired.

The recipe suggests substituting regular cooked ham if honey ham is unavailable, allowing for flexibility depending on ingredient preference. Salt should be adjusted to taste before serving to suit individual seasoning requirements.
