Easy Asparagus Tart

Easy Asparagus Tart features a flaky puff pastry base layered with tangy Dijon mustard, shredded Gruyere, Parmesan cheese, and fresh asparagus spears. The tart bakes until the crust is golden and puffy, while the cheeses melt into a richly textured topping under crisp, tender asparagus. This combination highlights subtle sharpness and savory notes, making it suitable as a light entrée or an appetizer when sliced into squares.

Description

The Easy Asparagus Tart starts with a rolled puff pastry spread lightly with Dijon mustard that adds a mild tang beneath the rich layers of shredded Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses. Fresh asparagus spears are aligned on top for a striking presentation and a lightly firm texture after baking. Baking at 400°F until the crust is golden ensures a crisp and flaky base contrasting the creamy melted cheeses and the tender vegetable topping.

The tart offers balanced savory flavors from the cheeses and a slight bite from the mustard, complemented by the clean vegetable freshness of asparagus. It can be cut into portions and served warm for light meals or as an elegant finger food at gatherings.

A drizzle of balsamic glaze is optional and adds a sweet-acidic finish that enhances the overall taste without overwhelming the other flavors.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 heet puff pastry thawed
  • 2 Tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 bunch asparagus tough ends trimmed
  • 3 cups gruyere cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Use a rolling pin to gently roll out puff pastry to an 11"x14" rectangle, then transfer to the parchment lined baking sheet. Dock (a fancy baking term meaning to prick all over) the puff pastry with a fork, then brush all over with the mustard.
  3. Sprinkle gruyere over the puff pastry, leaving a 1" border on all sides. Arrange asparagus spears to be parallel with each other (or get fancy and arrange them on a diagonal!).
  4. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and puffy. Slice into squares a serve. If desired, you can also drizzle a balsamic glaze (thicker and sweeter than balsamic vinegar) on top.

Notes

  • Using Dijon mustard is optional but recommended for added depth.
  • Arrange asparagus evenly so they cook uniformly.
  • A balsamic glaze drizzle can be added after baking for extra flavor contrast.
  • Serve the tart warm for best texture and taste.
