Baked apples filled with crunchy filling and topped with a delicious caramel sauce.

Ingredients
- 5 baking apples like Honeycrisp
- 2/3 cup cool water
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 cup Chopped Pecans
- 2 tablespoons real maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
- 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
- 5 tablespoons salted butter melted

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Add the filling ingredients to a medium bowl.
- Stir together.
- Chill until ready to use.
- Slice the apples in half.
- Scoop out the core.
- Place the apple halves in a 9x13-inch dish.
- Fill the center of the apples with the filling.
- In a separate small dish, stir together the cornstarch and cool water.
- Pour the cornstarch mixture around the apples into the bottom of the pan.
- Cover the pan tightly with foil.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Uncover and continue baking for about 20 additional minutes. I like to baste the apples with the sauce during the last 5 minutes of baking.
- Let the apples sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Apples: I like to use baking apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith.
- Water: I use cool (about 65F) tap water.
- Pecans: Feel free to use another type of chopped nut like walnuts. For a nut-free filling, use old-fashioned oats.
- Maple syrup: Honey will also work.
- Brown sugar: Light or dark brown sugar will work.
- Butter: If using unsalted butter, add a pinch or two of salt.
