Easy Beer Bread

Easy Beer Bread combines all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and beer to form a quick bread batter baked into a golden loaf with a tender crumb. The beer provides leavening and subtle flavor complexity, eliminating the need for yeast. This straightforward recipe makes a rustic bread suitable for sandwiches or as a bread side.

Description

In this recipe, dry ingredients including flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt are whisked together, then combined with beer to form a thick batter. The batter is poured into a prepared loaf pan and baked at 375°F until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs.

The bread develops a crusty outside with a soft interior crumb due to the beer's carbonation and active ingredients aiding leavening without yeast. The brown sugar adds subtle sweetness, and the baking powder provides rise. The straightforward method requires no kneading or rising time.

The finished bread is versatile enough for slicing warm shortly after baking or cooled fully for sandwiches. Its mild flavor complements soups or hearty mains. The recipe allows a simple project for bread baking with minimal ingredients and time.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 12 ounce beer bottle

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F. Spray a 9x5 loaf pan lightly and line with a piece of parchment paper.
  2. When the oven has come to temperature, measure the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a mixing bowl and whisk well to combine. Break up any lumps in your brown sugar.
  3. Add the beer to the bowl and whisk or stir to combine. Mix just enough to combine everything and there is no dry flour left. Don't worry about lumps.
  4. Turn the batter into your loaf pan and spread out the top so the batter is even from end to end.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out without wet batter on it (moist crumbs are fine.)
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove to a rack to cool.
  7. I like to slice the bread while it is still warm, but don't slice it until you are ready to eat.
