Easy Brisket with Caramelized Onions
Description
This brisket recipe begins by caramelizing sliced yellow onions slowly in butter and salt until golden and sweet, which adds depth to the final dish. The onions are set aside while the brisket, seasoned with salt and coarse ground pepper, is browned evenly in canola oil to develop a crust and enhance flavor through Maillard reaction.
Garlic, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and the caramelized onions are combined in a baking dish, and the brisket is returned to the dish, fat side up, to cook covered in the oven at low heat. This slow roasting for about four hours breaks down connective tissues, resulting in a fork-tender texture.
Slicing the brisket thinly against the grain ensures tenderness when serving. The layers of caramelized onions and slow-cooked meat make this dish hearty and suitable as a main course for gatherings or family meals.
