Easy Canned Green Bean Recipe

This recipe uses canned green beans cooked with butter, onion powder, salt, and pepper, slowly simmered until the liquid evaporates, intensifying their flavor. Using canned beans offers convenience, and the method ensures seasoning fully coats each bean. The result is tender green beans with a balanced savory seasoning, suitable as an everyday side dish.

Description

The Easy Canned Green Bean Recipe starts by partially draining the canned green beans, then cooking them with butter and dry seasonings including onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmering uncovered allows the liquid to reduce, concentrating the flavors and ensuring the butter and spices adhere to the beans’ surface.

Because canned green beans are already cooked and tender, the preparation focuses on warming them through and enhancing their taste rather than cooking from raw. The method is straightforward, requiring minimal active time and only a few ingredients.

This side dish pairs well with a variety of main courses and can be scaled up by increasing the amount of beans and adjusting seasonings to taste. Adding bacon is suggested as an optional enhancement for additional flavor and texture contrast.

Letting the liquid fully evaporate is key to avoiding diluted seasoning. Leftovers can be easily reheated and the recipe is flexible for batch cooking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 can green beans any cut, see note
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Drain half of the liquid out of the green beans.
  2. Pour the green beans and the reserved half of the canning liquid into a skillet.
  3. Add butter, onion powder, salt and pepper.
  4. Simmer, uncovered and stirring occasionally, until almost all of the cooking liquid has evaporated.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary.

Notes

  • You can scale the recipe to make larger batches by increasing the number of canned green beans and adjusting seasonings proportionally.
  • Allow the cooking liquid to simmer away completely to maximize flavor adherence on the beans.
  • Consider adding cooked bacon pieces for a smoky, savory addition to the dish.
  • Since canned green beans are pre-cooked, cooking time only includes warming and flavor infusion.
