Easy Cheddar Cheese Sauce

Report
This cheddar cheese sauce blends whole milk, flour, butter, sharp cheddar, and Dijon mustard into a smooth and creamy condiment. It's a richly textured sauce ideal for pouring over vegetables, pasta, or using as a dip. The Dijon mustard adds a subtle tang that balances the cheese's richness.

Description

The Easy Cheddar Cheese Sauce uses a classic roux base with butter and flour cooked into warm whole milk, creating a creamy, thickened foundation. Sharp cheddar cheese is melted in at the end alongside Dijon mustard, contributing both depth of flavor and a mild bite. The sauce has a velvety, smooth texture suitable for coating foods evenly.

It can be served over steamed vegetables or stirred through pasta for extra flavor. The bright note from Dijon mustard complements the cheddar without overpowering it, giving the sauce a subtle complexity.

Careful flour sifting before cooking ensures no lumps. When reheating, gently warm and whisk in more milk if needed to return to a pourable consistency without splitting. For variation, a splash of hot sauce can add a mild spicy element. Mozzarella is not recommended as it impacts the sauce's texture.

  • 4 tablespoon plain flour
  • 50 g butter
  • 80 g cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Put 500 ml Whole milk in a saucepan with the 4 tablespoon Plain flour and 50 g Butter.
