Easy Chicken Divan

Easy Chicken Divan combines cooked chicken and crisp broccoli in a creamy sauce thickened with sour cream and condensed soup, topped with cheddar cheese and a buttery breadcrumb crust. The broccoli is lightly cooked before baking to maintain firmness and prevent a watery casserole. Baking brings a bubbly, golden topping offering a mild savory flavor enhanced by garlic and onion powders balanced with mustard and black pepper. This comforting casserole can be served over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes for a simple hearty meal.

Description

Easy Chicken Divan features tender pieces of cooked chicken blended with broccoli florets in a creamy mixture that includes condensed soup, sour cream, and milk. The addition of garlic powder, onion powder, dry mustard, seasoned salt, and black pepper enhances the subtle flavors of the dish. A generous amount of cheddar cheese adds richness, while a topping of panko breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter provides a crisp, golden finish after baking.

The broccoli is boiled just until tender-crisp to avoid sogginess during baking. The casserole is assembled in a 9x13 dish, layered with sauce, chicken, broccoli, cheese, and the buttered breadcrumbs. Baking at 400°F for 18 to 20 minutes melds the flavors and crisps the topping, while keeping the interior creamy and hot.

This versatile casserole is well-suited for serving over cooked rice, egg noodles, or mashed potatoes, making it adaptable to different preferences or pantry items. It is a filling dish that combines protein, vegetables, and comfort in one bake.

Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container refrigerated for up to four days and reheated gently with a splash of milk to restore creaminess. Using fresh broccoli and draining it well before combining prevents watery results, while frozen broccoli can be a convenient alternative with slightly softer texture.
