Easy Chicken Gyros with Greek Feta Sauce
Description
Easy Chicken Gyros with Greek Feta Sauce combines cooked chicken breast sliced or shredded, fresh vegetables, and pita bread, brought together with a distinctive sauce made by pureeing olive oil, Greek yogurt, feta cheese, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, and herbs including parsley, garlic powder, oregano, and basil. This sauce adds creaminess, tang, and savory notes characteristic of Greek flavors. The filling components are versatile, from romaine lettuce for crunch, grape tomatoes for sweetness, to thinly sliced cucumbers for freshness.
The recipe suggests warming the pita bread, then layering the chicken and vegetables before topping generously with the feta sauce. Wrapping the gyro tightly helps keep ingredients assembled. Variations can include additional toppings like onions, bell peppers, olives, and extra feta. The preparation of the chicken is open-ended; grilled, pressure-cooked, or rotisserie chicken all work to suit time and preference.
The sauce leftovers make a versatile dressing for salads or a flavorful spread for other sandwiches. The recipe yields about three-quarters of a cup of sauce, enough for several wraps. The balance of creamy, tangy sauce with moist cooked chicken and crisp vegetables creates a satisfying sandwich option with Greek-inspired tastes.
