Easy Chili Recipe
Description
Easy Chili Recipe uses a combination of ground beef or turkey, onion, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and a chili seasoning blend. The meat is browned first, then softened onions are added, followed by the seasoning and tomato products. Adding water adjusts thickness and the chili simmers for 30 minutes to an hour allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken. Kidney beans add body and a slight nuttiness, balancing the tomato and meat.
The resulting chili offers a hearty, slightly thick texture, perfect for a filling meal. Cheese or sour cream can be added on top for creaminess and mildness, enhancing each serving. The recipe is useful when feeding groups, as it can be scaled up easily.
Simmering time lets the flavors marry well, and stirring occasionally prevents sticking. It's practical for making in a single pot and can be doubled or tripled to accommodate larger gatherings or leftovers.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef or turkey
- 2 cans tomato 14 oz cans, diced or crushed
- (1) 14 oz. tomato sauce canned
- 1 can water (might need two if you want it thinner)
- 4 tablespoons chili seasoning (you can make your own -recipe to come- or use a half of a packet)
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/2 onion can be frozen, chopped
- 2 Kidney Beans you can use yours from the freezer -if you use beans from the freezer, you will need to ad salt (canned beans have a ton of salt, cans
- cheese optional, or sour cream to serve
Instructions
- In a large stock pot, brown your ground beef or ground turkey. I love to use my Pampered chef mix n chop to break up the meat evenly. We normally do 1 pound of ground beef and one pound of ground turkey. I save money and no one can taste the difference.
- Add in the 1/2 onion and continue until they are soft.
- Stir in the chili seasoning, tomatoes, water, and beans.
- Bring to a boil.
- Then turn to low, add the lid and let simmer (stirring occasionally).
- Simmer for 30 minutes up to an hour to let all the flavors combine.
Notes
- You can adjust the water to get the chili thickness you prefer.
- The recipe can be doubled or tripled to serve larger groups or to have leftovers.
- Use either ground beef or turkey, or a mix for cost savings and flavor balance.
- Add cheese or sour cream when serving to complement the chili's warmth.
