Easy Christmas Truffles Recipe: Merry Chocolate Bites
Description
Chocolate chips are melted through contact with hot heavy cream, creating a ganache base infused with peppermint extract for a refreshing flavor. Chilling the mixture allows it to firm up enough to be handled and formed into uniform bite-sized spheres, ensuring a smooth, creamy interior.
The truffles can be decorated freely with colored icing and holiday-themed sprinkles, adding a festive appearance while maintaining their rich chocolate flavor. They are best kept chilled, either in the refrigerator or freezer, for freshness and firmness.
These truffles can be customized by using different types of melting chocolate such as milk or white chocolate, though sweetness levels and flavor intensity will vary accordingly.
Proper storage in cold conditions extends their shelf life to up to a week refrigerated or a month frozen.
Ingredients
- 3 cups chocolate chips semi-sweet
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tbsp peppermint extract
- Icing optional, red
- green icing (optional)
- holiday sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Pour the chocolate chips into a large bowl. Heat your heavy cream on the stove at medium heat until steaming and pour over the chocolate.
- Add the peppermint extract to the mixture and stir until combined.
- Place the truffle mixture into the fridge for at least 2 hours or until semi-firm.
- Scoop about 1 ½ tbsp of the chocolate mixture. Using the palms of your hands, roll the mixture into a round ball.
- Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat until you run out of the truffle mixture.
- Decorate with icing and sprinkles in any design you choose for a festive look.
- Place the balls in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy or gift.
Notes
- Milk or white chocolate can be used but will yield a sweeter truffle.
- Decorations can include a variety of sprinkles or dipping in cocoa powder for different textures.
- Truffles keep refrigerated for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 1 month.
