Easy Cornbread Dressing

Easy Cornbread Dressing blends softened celery, onions, and fresh parsley with pre-packaged cornbread stuffing mix and aromatic poultry seasoning. The mixture, moistened with chicken broth, is baked until heated through, resulting in a moist, savory side dish suitable for holiday dinners or family meals. Its texture combines soft vegetables with tender cornbread crumbs, providing a traditional approach to dressing that pairs well with roasted poultry.

Description

Easy Cornbread Dressing brings together sautéed celery and onion along with fresh parsley for aromatics, combined with a prepared cornbread stuffing mix. The dressing is seasoned with sage, poultry seasoning, and black pepper, then moistened with chicken broth to achieve a moist, cohesive texture before baking. Baking it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until heated through ensures the flavors meld and the dressing holds together without becoming soggy.

The resulting dish features tender, flavorful crumb with softened vegetable bits creating a traditional texture typical of southern-style dressings. This dish complements turkey and other roasted meats well, making it a staple side for holiday meals.

This recipe allows adjustment of broth quantity to control moisture level, providing flexibility for preferred consistency. Using fresh parsley adds brightness to the flavor mix, enhancing the earthiness from the poultry seasoning and sage.

  • 1/4 cup parsley chopped, fresh
  • 2 cornbread stuffing mix I use Pepperidge Farm, packages
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons sage dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper or to taste, ground
  • 4 1/2 cups chicken broth or as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped celery and onion into the skillet and cook until slightly soft, approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Empty the bags of the cornbread stuffing mix into a large bowl.
  5. Pour the vegetable mixture over the bread mixture.
  6. Add the chicken broth and mix well. Add additional broth if necessary to get the necessary moistness.
  7. Add salt, pepper, sage, and poultry seasoning.
  8. Pour mixture into a baking pan and bake in a preheated oven until dressing is heated through about 30 minutes.

Notes

  • Use fresh parsley for a brighter herbal flavor in the dressing.
  • Adjust chicken broth amount to achieve desired moistness before baking.
  • Make sure vegetables are slightly softened but not browned before mixing with bread crumbs.
  • Serve warm alongside roasted poultry for a traditional holiday meal component.
