Easy Crock Pot Pork Shoulder Recipe

This slow-cooked pork shoulder uses simple seasoning and BBQ sauce to yield fork-tender meat with a smoky-sweet flavor. Cooking on low heat for several hours breaks down the pork's connective tissue, resulting in tender, shreddable meat perfect for sandwiches or tacos. The recipe includes seasoning with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper and finishes by shredding and mixing with additional sauce to taste.

Description

The Easy Crock Pot Pork Shoulder Recipe starts with a 3-pound pork shoulder seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. The meat is placed on sliced onions in a slow cooker, covered with BBQ sauce, and cooked on low for about 8 hours until very tender.

Slow cooking breaks down fat and connective tissue, creating a juicy and flavorful roast that can be shredded with forks. The onions and BBQ sauce lend moisture and additional aromatic and tangy flavor to the meat throughout cooking. After resting, the pork is shredded and optionally blended with more BBQ sauce to suit taste preferences.

This dish pairs well with buns or tacos, making it versatile for casual meals. Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to five days and can be frozen for up to two months. The recipe advises thorough thawing if using frozen pork shoulder for best results.
