Easy Cube Steak Recipe

This Easy Cube Steak Recipe features cubed steak coated in a seasoned flour mixture and pan-fried to develop a golden crust. The cooked steak is served with a savory gravy made from beef broth, ranch seasoning, and sautéed onions. The method yields tender, well-seasoned beef with flavorful pan gravy, ideal to serve over mashed potatoes for a satisfying meal.

Description

The cubed steak is dredged in a mixture of flour, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper before being pan-fried in vegetable oil. Cooking each side for about five minutes develops a browned crust while sealing in juices. After removing the steak, sliced onions are cooked in the same pan alongside beef broth and ranch seasoning mix. This combination deglazes the pan and creates a rich gravy that absorbs the flavors left from searing. The steak is returned briefly to warm through before serving, making a comforting dish with a tender texture and flavorful sauce.

Serving the cube steak with mashed potatoes complements the gravy and beef, adding creaminess to the dish.

  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Gravy:

  • 1 onion sliced, large
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 ranch seasoning mix package

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl combine flour, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, whisk.

  4. Once done cooking the beef, to the same skillet add onion, broth, and ranch mix. Scrape the bits from the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon, bring to a simmer and cook until the onion is tender about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Return steak to the pan to warm it up, serve immediately over mashed potatoes.
