Easy Dirty Rice with Shrimp
Description
Easy Dirty Rice with Shrimp features brown rice cooked with bay leaf and warming spices like cayenne, paprika, and thyme to infuse flavor into the grains. Shrimp are cooked separately until tender, then set aside. The ground beef or pork sausage is browned with a sautéed mirepoix of onion, garlic, celery, and bell peppers, seasoned to build depth with cumin and additional cayenne, paprika, and thyme. Finally, rice and shrimp are combined with the meat mixture and gently heated together to blend flavors. This creates a textured rice dish filled with juicy shrimp and aromatic spices.
The dish can be served hot as a standalone meal, with scallions sprinkled on top for a fresh note. The combination of shrimp with ground meat and vegetables provides a rich, satisfying flavor profile. Its use of brown rice adds chewiness and whole grain nutrition while supporting the layers of seasoning.
This recipe cooks the rice with whole spices and combines all components at the end to keep the shrimp tender and the vegetables soft but distinct. Adjust seasoning to taste before serving.
