Easy Flatbread Pizza
Description
The recipe starts by preheating the broiler and positioning flatbreads on baking sheets. Each flatbread is coated with a thin layer of pizza sauce followed by shredded mozzarella. Tomato slices and drained artichoke hearts are evenly distributed as fresh toppings. Small dollops of softened cream cheese are added, which melt during broiling to contribute rich, creamy pockets within the pizza. The broiling process quickly heats the toppings, melting cheese and warming the vegetables without making the flatbread too crisp or dry. Fresh basil leaves garnished after cooking add herbal brightness and aroma.
Flatbreads like naan provide a soft, chewy crust that contrasts nicely with the melted cheeses and the tender tomatoes and artichokes. The cream cheese adds a mild tang and creamy texture that complements the mozzarella. Using broiling instead of baking speeds up cooking while preserving topping textures.
This pizza is suitable for a quick lunch or casual dinner and can be prepared individually or in batches. The notes suggest using naan as the base and a simple homemade marinara sauce for convenience and flavor balance.
Ingredients
- 4 flatbread see note 1
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce (see note 2)
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
- 3 Roma tomato thinly sliced
- 1 can artichoke hearts packed in water, drained
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- basil whole or thinly sliced, for garnish, fresh leaves
Instructions
- Adjust an oven rack to the upper middle position and preheat broiler on LOW. Arrange flatbreads in a single layer on two rimmed baking sheets.
- Top each flatbread with 2 tablespoons sauce and 1/2 cup cheese. Divide the tomato slices evenly among the flatbreads and top each with several artichoke hearts.
- Drop several teaspoon-sized dollops of cream cheese on each pizza. Broil in the oven until the artichokes and tomatoes are heated through and the cheese has melted, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from oven and garnish with fresh basil.
Notes
- Naan bread works well as a flatbread base because of its soft and chewy texture, commonly found in the bakery section.
- Homemade marinara sauce, made with olive oil, garlic, basil, oregano, tomato sauce, and salt, is recommended for a quick, flavorful pizza sauce alternative.
