Easy Furikake Salmon

Easy Furikake Salmon involves salmon fillets topped with a mix of Kewpie mayonnaise, lemon juice, and furikake seasoning combined with black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. The fish is baked until it reaches the desired tenderness, with a slightly moist texture and a savory, umami-rich crust from the seasoning blend. This recipe offers a straightforward way to infuse salmon with Japanese-inspired flavors while keeping preparation minimal. It is well-suited for a quick dinner and pairs well with steamed rice or a simple salad.

Description

Easy Furikake Salmon centers on salmon fillets dressed with a creamy layer of Kewpie mayonnaise and lemon juice, then sprinkled with furikake seasoning mixed with black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Baking at 350°F ensures the fish cooks gently, maintaining moisture while allowing the furikake to form a flavorful crust. The mayo and lemon juice add creaminess and brightness that complement the umami notes of the furikake seasoning.

The salmon is cut into servings before baking, making it easy to serve individual portions. The texture balances tenderness with a lightly crisped top. Checking the internal temperature between 125°F and 135°F allows customization of doneness, from medium-rare to fully cooked flakes.

This dish works well as a simple main course alongside rice and steamed vegetables. Its seasoning blend lends a nuanced savory and slightly tangy profile without complicated steps or multiple ingredients.

Adjust baking times according to fillet thickness as thinner or thicker cuts will require less or more baking time. The fish is safe to eat medium-rare if preferred, judged by flakiness or temperature.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 lb salmon boneless, skin on or off, fillet
  • 2 tablespoon mayonnaise Kewpie brand
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon Furikake Seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350º
  2. Cut salmon fillet across the grain into four equal servings and arrange on a parchment-lined baking tray. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. In a small bowl, combine kewpie mayo and lemon juice and whisk together well, then spoon onto salmon pieces and spread evenly over the tops.
  4. In another small bowl, combine furikake seasoning, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Sprinkle evenly over top of mayo covered salmon.
  5. Bake in center of oven for 12 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches between 125-135 depending on your preference.
  6. Remove from oven, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust baking time based on the thickness of your salmon fillets to ensure proper doneness.
  • Salmon flakes apart easily when cooked; you may choose medium rare by checking internal temperature around 125°F to 135°F.
