Easy Garlic Herb Flatbread
Description
Easy Garlic Herb Flatbread features rolled pizza dough folded over garlic powder to trap the savory seasoning inside. The dough is then cut into pieces and pan-fried in olive oil until both sides develop a golden-brown color and slight crispness. Fresh chopped parsley or basil and a coarse sea salt finishing sprinkle add brightness and flavor contrast to the mild garlic. The folding technique ensures the garlic flavor permeates the bread rather than just resting on top.
The fried flatbreads have a tender yet slightly chewy crumb with crispy, lightly oily edges from cooking in a hot skillet. Serving them immediately helps maintain their texture and flavor. They offer a quick homemade flatbread option without baking in the oven and require only a few simple ingredients.
These flatbreads work well as an accompaniment to soups, stews, or salads, or can be enjoyed as a snack on their own with dips or cheeses. Their straightforward seasoning and cooking method make them versatile for many meals.
If you have leftovers, these flatbreads freeze well when wrapped airtight and can be reheated by toasting to refresh their texture and warmth.
Ingredients
- 1 pizza dough 14-16 oz; store-bought or homemade
- 4 TB olive oil
- 2 TB parsley flat-leaf; freshly chopped; or basil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- sea salt coarse; for sprinkling on top
Instructions
- On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough to a 1/4 inch thickness. Sprinkle evenly with garlic. Fold dough in half so the garlic powder is inside the dough. Roll back out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into roughly equal pieces (about 8 pieces.)
- Heat 2 TB oil in a large nonstick skillet on medium high heat. Swirl to ensure even coating of oil on pan. Once oil is hot, gently place 4 pieces of dough on pan (do not overcrowd; may split into 2 batches or use 2 pans.) Cook until golden brown, about 1 min. Flip over and cook another minute. Press down a bit on dough with spatula to ensure even browning.
- Transfer flatbreads to a serving plate. Sprinkle with the parsley (or basil) and sea salt. Repeat with rest of batches, adding more oil to coat pan as necessary. Serve immediately for best results.
Notes
- Wrap and freeze any extra flatbreads to preserve freshness for later use.
- Reheat frozen flatbreads by toasting to restore crispness.
- Serve immediately after cooking for the best texture and flavor.
