Easy Green Bean Casserole
Description
In this Easy Green Bean Casserole, drained canned green beans are mixed with cream of chicken and cream of mushroom condensed soups and milk, seasoned with salt and pepper. The mixture is placed into a baking dish, then baked until heated through. Just before serving, crispy fried onions are added on top and baked briefly to maintain their crunch. The soups create a creamy sauce that coats the beans, while the onion topping adds a toasted, textural finish.
This casserole is a popular side dish that totals comforting, savory flavors suitable for dinner or holiday tables. It uses common pantry ingredients for convenience and can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking.
The recipe allows using fresh green beans if preferred; boiling them briefly softens their texture closer to canned beans. A slow cooker option is available where soups and beans cook slowly, and onions are baked separately for crispness.
Adding the fried onions only at the end preserves their crunchiness. Leftovers can be stored refrigerated and reheated, making this casserole practical for batch cooking and meal prepping.
