Easy Green Chile Enchilada Sauce

This Easy Green Chile Enchilada Sauce is a smooth, mildly spiced sauce made from pureed canned green chiles, toasted flour, and spices. It has a balanced texture with a gentle heat from the cumin and garlic powder, ideal for smothering enchiladas or adding flavor to Mexican dishes. The sauce is simple to prepare on the stove and can be stored refrigerated for several days.

Description

The Easy Green Chile Enchilada Sauce combines canned diced green chiles, which are puréed to create a smooth base, with a lightly toasted roux made from oil, flour, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder. This melding of toasted spices and flour brings a subtle depth to the sauce, while the green chiles lend mild heat and vegetal flavor. Cooking the mixture until it bubbles ensures the flour is cooked through, thickening the sauce suitably. Salt is added to finish. This sauce provides a fresh alternative to red enchilada sauces and is versatile enough to use immediately or to keep refrigerated for up to four days.

  • 1 cup water $0.00
