Easy Grilled Shrimp

Easy Grilled Shrimp features jumbo shrimp marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, and a mix of smoked paprika and herbs, then cooked quickly on a hot grill. The seasoning blend adds smoky, savory, and slightly spicy notes while the grilling gives a smoky char and tender texture. These shrimp work well as a main dish, in salads, wraps, or tacos.

Description

This recipe begins by preparing jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined, coated with olive oil, lemon juice, and a robust blend of spices including smoked paprika, garlic and onion powders, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Threading shrimp onto skewers or using a grill basket ensures even cooking on a hot grill preheated to about 500°F.

The shrimp cook quickly, about 2 to 3 minutes per side, until opaque and just starting to curl, delivering a tender, juicy interior with a slightly crisp exterior from grilling. The lemon juice provides brightness while the smoked paprika gives a warm smoky flavor that complements the herbs and spices.

Serve these grilled shrimp hot. They can be enjoyed as a main protein with sides, incorporated into salads or wraps, or used to make tacos. The recipe is scalable according to serving needs.

The marinade and quick grill make this an efficient recipe that highlights the shrimp’s natural flavor without overpowering it.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 pound Shrimp peeled and deveined, jumbo
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried
  • 1 teaspoon basil dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill to high heat, about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Soak wooden skewers in water, if using, for 10 minutes, or use metal skewers or a grill basket.
  2. Peel and devein 1 pound jumbo shrimp. Remove tails, if desired and place in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil and 2 tablespoons lemon juice.
  3. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Toss until all of the shrimp is well coated.
  4. Thread shrimp onto the prepared skewers leaving a small amount of space between each piece for even cooking, or place shrimp in a grill basket.
  5. Cook shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side until they are no longer translucent and just starting to curl. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Using jumbo shrimp (16 to 20 pieces per pound) ensures substantial size and quick cooking.
  • This recipe can be easily scaled up for larger groups by multiplying the ingredients.
  • Grilled shrimp are versatile: serve as a main dish, add to salads or wraps, or include in tacos.
