Easy Guacamole Recipe
Description
The recipe starts with perfectly ripe but firm avocados mashed coarsely to maintain some texture rather than a smooth puree. Fresh lime juice is added early to prevent browning and brighten flavors. The mix is seasoned with sea salt, which also delays oxidation.
Chopped red onion, minced garlic, diced tomato, jalapeño pepper, and cilantro are folded into the avocado, imparting crunch, heat, and herbal freshness. The jalapeño level can be adjusted to taste for a mild or spicier guacamole.
Guacamole is best served soon after preparation to maintain vibrant color and flavor. It pairs well with nachos, tortilla chips, tacos, or as an accompaniment to grilled meats and vegetables.
Using freshly squeezed lime and avoiding over-mashing ensure a lively, textured dip. Additional lime can be added for more tang. Ingredients like garlic and tomato can be omitted or adjusted based on preference.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe avocado
- ¼ red onion (finely chopped)
- 1 jalapeño chopped
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 4 teaspoons lime juice extra 1 to 2 teaspoon if you like it tangy
- ⅓ cup cilantro
- ½ tomato finely chopped, ripe
- 1 teaspoon salt sea salt
Instructions
- Cut perfectly ripe avocados into half lengthwise. Remove and discard the pit. Using a spoon scoop out the flesh, and add it to a large mixing bowl. Squeeze fresh lime juice over it.
- Add a generous pinch of sea salt to the avocado, this will prevent the avocado from oxidizing and turning brown.
- Using a fork mash avocado. Do not over-mash or puree avocados. It needs to have some texture.
- Add the rest of the ingredients diced red onions, minced garlic, diced tomatoes, chopped jalapenos, and fresh cilantro. Mix until combined. Taste and adjust seasoning as required. If you like extra punch add more jalapenos.
- It’s BEST to serve guacamole as soon as it’s made. These are great with nachos or tortilla chips.
Notes
- Select ripe avocados that yield slightly when pressed but are not overly soft or bruised.
- Avoid over-mashing avocados to retain desirable texture and freshness.
- Squeeze fresh lime juice over the avocado immediately to slow browning.
- If raw garlic flavor is too strong, it can be omitted or reduced.
- Ripe tomatoes are optional; add or skip depending on preference.
- Increase jalapeño quantity with seeds for extra spiciness if desired.
- Consult guidance on storing guacamole to keep it fresh and green for 2 to 3 days.
