Easy Homemade Panini Without a Panini Press

This Easy Homemade Panini recipe creates crispy, pressed sandwiches using a skillet and weighted cookware instead of a panini press. Spread garlic aioli on French bread and layer with deli meat, cheese, and optional tomato before grilling until golden and melty. The result is a satisfying sandwich with toasted bread and warm, melted fillings.

Description

The sandwich begins with garlic aioli made from mayonnaise, pressed garlic, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. French bread is cut into four sections and halved lengthwise. The aioli is spread on both bread sides followed by chicken or turkey deli meat, cheese slices, and optional tomato slices.

Each sandwich is pressed slightly by hand, then cooked in a medium-heated skillet. Butter is applied to the bottoms, and a heavy object (such as cast iron cookware) is used to press the sandwiches while cooking. After browning the first side and pressing, the sandwiches are buttered on top and flipped to cook and press the other side, developing a crunchy, golden crust with melted cheese inside.

This stovetop method provides an easy way to enjoy panini-style sandwiches without specialized equipment, delivering both crisp bread and warm, gooey fillings.
