Easy Homemade Peach Fritters

These Easy Homemade Peach Fritters are tender fried treats featuring diced peaches folded into a lightly spiced batter with cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Fried until golden brown, they offer a crisp exterior with a soft, fruity interior. The included almond glaze adds a sweet, nutty finish. Ideal for enjoying fresh as a snack or dessert, the recipe offers tips on frying temperature and batter consistency for even cooking.

Description

Easy Homemade Peach Fritters combine juicy diced peaches with a spiced batter containing cinnamon, ginger, and a hint of nutmeg. The fritters are fried in vegetable oil at 375 degrees until golden and cooked through. The frying process creates a crisp outside while maintaining a tender center with bursts of peach flavor. The almond glaze, made with confectioners sugar, almond extract, and milk or water, complements the fritters by adding sweetness and a nutty aroma.

These fritters are best prepared fresh to enjoy their texture and flavor but can be stored for short periods. The recipe highlights techniques for checking oil temperature, such as the wooden spoon test, and advises keeping batter portions consistent for even cooking. The fritters are flipped during frying to ensure a uniform golden crust. Their spiced batter and fresh peach pieces make them a distinctive treat for those who enjoy fruit-based fried desserts.

The recipe also offers ingredient substitutions, like using vanilla extract instead of almond for a different aroma, or frozen/canned peaches with proper thawing or draining. Care is needed to avoid overheating oil, which can burn the batter. Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to retain some crispness. The subtle spice blend and almond glaze provide a nuanced flavor profile beyond simple sweetness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 1/2 cups peach diced
  • 1 1/4 cup flour spooned and leveled
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • pinch nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 large egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4-5 cups vegetable oil

Almond Glaze

  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk or water

Instructions

  1. Add diced peaches to a medium bowl and add lemon juice and mix. Set aside.
  2. Add all flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, and kosher salt to a medium-sized bowl whisk, and set aside. Add eggs, melted (cooled) butter, milk, almond extract, to a large bowl and whisk and set aside.
  3. Add vegetable oil to a large saucepan and heat over medium-high heat.
  4. Add whisked dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and gently mix together until well combined, but don't over mix. Gently fold in the diced peaches.
  5. When oil reaches 375 degrees, measured by either a thermometer or the wooden spoon test (see recipe notes), use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to add 2-3 fritters into the hot oil at a time.
  6. Fry for about 2-4 minutes on each side, flipping in the oil until both sides are golden brown. You'll know they're done if you insert a small knife into the center and it comes clean. If not, fry a little longer so that the center is fully cooked. This time will depend on the size of your fritter and the temperature of your oil.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to remove from oil, shake off any excess, and place on a baking sheet lined with paper towels and a cooling rack. Repeat with the rest of the dough.

Glaze

  1. Add confectioner's sugar, almond extract, and milk to a small bowl and whisk until smooth.
  2. Drizzle on fritters.
  3. Enjoy!!

Notes

  • Store fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Reheat in a 350°F oven for about 8 minutes to restore crispness.
  • Use fresh, frozen (thawed), or canned (well-drained) peaches as preferred.
  • Maintain oil temperature around 375°F to avoid undercooking or burning; test with a wooden spoon if no thermometer is available.
  • Keep fritter sizes consistent for even frying and flip them during cooking for uniform browning.
  • Almond extract pairs well with peaches but can be substituted with vanilla extract if desired.
