Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce

Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce uses crushed tomatoes flavored with Italian herbs, garlic, and a touch of sugar, simmered in olive oil. The sauce balances savory and slightly sweet notes with aromatic dried herbs, resulting in a smooth base suitable for topping pizzas. It can be made ahead and stored or frozen for convenience.

Description

This pizza sauce starts with crushed tomatoes cooked gently with extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, and Italian seasoning including oregano, basil, and thyme. A small amount of sugar reduces acidity, while sea salt and freshly ground black pepper enhance the overall flavor.

Simmering the sauce for at least five minutes allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly, making it easier to spread on pizza dough. The sauce has a balanced flavor profile with herbaceous notes complementing the tomato base.

This sauce yields about 3 cups, enough for three large pizzas. It can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for up to three months, providing a convenient homemade option for pizza night. Thaw frozen sauce in the refrigerator overnight before use.
