Easy Homemade Taco Seasoning
Description
The seasoning combines a tablespoon of chili powder with measured amounts of salt, ground cumin, dried oregano, garlic powder, and onion powder. When preparing ground beef, the meat is cooked fully and drained, then this seasoning is added along with tomato sauce to simmer and infuse the flavors. The resulting blend delivers classic taco seasoning notes with flexibility to adjust amounts for larger batches or other meats.
This mix can be stored in an airtight container, using approximately two tablespoons per pound of cooked ground beef when prepared in bulk. It serves well as a basic but balanced seasoning for tacos, burritos, and similar Mexican-inspired dishes that call for a well-rounded but straightforward spice mix.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ tsp cumin ground
- ½ tsp oregano dried
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients together and mix. Store in an airtight container if making a large batch.
Notes
- This amount of seasoning is intended for one pound of ground beef.
- After cooking and draining the beef, add half a cup of tomato sauce and the seasoning, then allow the mixture to simmer for 5 minutes to develop flavor.
- When making larger batches, use about two tablespoons of seasoning per pound of cooked ground beef.
