Easy Hummus Recipe Recipe

This hummus recipe blends cooked chickpeas with tahini, lemon juice, salt, ground cumin, and finely minced garlic into a smooth, creamy dip. Cooking canned chickpeas briefly softens them for blending. Water is added gradually to achieve desired creaminess. The result is a classic, mild-flavored hummus that can be garnished simply with olive oil, paprika, or extra chickpeas.

Description

The "Easy Hummus Recipe" starts by boiling canned chickpeas to soften them further and improve texture. The chickpeas are combined with tahini, lemon juice, salt, ground cumin, and finely minced garlic, then processed until smooth. Water is slowly added during blending to reach a creamy consistency without being too thick or runny. The flavors are mild and balanced, with the lemon juice providing brightness and cumin adding a subtle warm spice.

The texture is velvety and easily spreadable, ideal as a dip or sandwich spread. The recipe keeps ingredients simple, allowing the natural chickpea flavor to come through.

Serving suggestions include drizzling olive oil and sprinkling paprika for extra color and flavor, or topping with a few whole chickpeas. The dip pairs well with vegetables, pita, or crackers for snacking.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 ounce chickpeas canned
  • ¾ cup tahini
  • cup lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons salt sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 2-3 large garlic very finely minced, cloves
  • ½ cup water cold

Instructions

  1. Pour the chickpeas and the liquid in the cans into a small pot and bring it to a boil. Continue to boil for 15 mintues, adding water if the pot looks too dry. Drain and set aside to cool.
  2. Add the soft chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, salt, cumin, and garlic to a food processor. Blend on high until smooth.
  3. Slowly drizzle in about a ½ cup of water. You may not need all of it. Once the hummus is super creamy, it's ready to eat.

Notes

  • Use cold water when blending to maintain a creamy texture without warming the hummus.
  • Garnish with olive oil, a sprinkle of paprika, and a few whole chickpeas for presentation.
  • Boiling canned chickpeas prior to blending helps achieve a smoother consistency.
