Easy Karo Syrup Caramel Popcorn
Description
The Easy Karo Syrup Caramel Popcorn recipe starts with standard popped popcorn and optional unsalted mixed nuts, coated in a homemade caramel made by cooking brown sugar and Karo syrup with margarine and salt to a soft-ball stage. Baking soda and vanilla extract are added after heating to give a light, aerated texture to the caramel. After pouring the caramel mixture over the popcorn and nuts, the combination is baked at a low temperature while being stirred occasionally to achieve an even, crunchy coating. Cooling and breaking apart completes the process, resulting in a sweet treat with a crisp and chewy caramel layer that clings to the popcorn well.
The texture features a balance between crisp popcorn kernels and the chewy caramel glaze, providing a nostalgic homemade candy feel. The addition of mixed nuts adds extra crunch and variety. The low and slow baking process ensures the caramel sets properly without burning while maintaining popcorn samples intact.
This snack is well suited for sharing at gatherings, movie nights, or as a homemade gift. It stores best in a tightly covered container to maintain its crispness and can be made in advance. The recipe’s clear steps and familiar ingredients make it approachable for home cooks wanting to make classic caramel popcorn from scratch.
