Easy Kettle Corn Recipe
Description
This Easy Kettle Corn Recipe uses coconut oil to pop popcorn kernels over medium-high heat, adding granulated sugar at the start so it melts and coats the popcorn as it pops. This method produces popcorn with a crisp exterior and a sweet crust balanced by sea salt. The stirring or shaking ensures even cooking and sugar distribution without burning. The process takes about two minutes until popping slows, signaling readiness.
The resulting kettle corn is both airy and crunchy with a characteristic sweet and salty contrast. It's a straightforward snack that can be enjoyed immediately and stored for two to three days in an airtight container to retain crispness.
This homemade kettle corn avoids artificial ingredients found in commercial varieties and is simple to make using basic kitchen equipment like a pot with a lid or a popcorn popper.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt sea salt
Instructions
- In a Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper or in a large pot with a lid, heat the coconut oil over medium-high heat. Add the popcorn kernels. When the coconut oil sizzles, sprinkle the sugar over the popcorn kernels. Cover and stir or shake the pan until the popping slows down. The popcorn should be done popping in about 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and pour the kettle corn into a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt and toss. Enjoy!
- Note-the kettle corn will keep for 2-3 days. Store in an air-tight container or Ziploc bag.
