Easy Pizza Sliders Recipe with Hawaiian Rolls
Description
The recipe assembles halved Hawaiian rolls in a baking dish, spreading sauce on the bottom halves, layering mozzarella cheese and pepperoni, then topping with more cheese and the top halves of the rolls. An herbed butter mixture with garlic powder and red pepper flakes is brushed over the tops to add moisture and flavor during baking.
Covered and baked until melted and hot throughout, the sliders develop a crispy top edged with buttery and mildly spicy notes from the seasoning. The soft interior contrasts nicely with the melted cheese and pepperoni slices, making each bite flavorful yet balanced.
The sliders can be customized with additional toppings or sauces, and vary from meat lovers to vegetarian options. They work well for casual meals, parties, or snack occasions.
For make-ahead convenience, the sliders can be refrigerated or frozen before or after baking. Reheating methods include oven, air fryer, or slow cooker to maintain texture and warmth. Storage tips suggest airtight containers and thawing steps for frozen sliders.
Ingredients
- 1 package hawaiian rolls 12 slider buns, sliced in half lengthwise
- 1 cup pizza sauce or favorite sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
- 5 ounce pepperoni regular or turkey pepperoni
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ cup Parmesan Cheese + 2 tablespoons fresh grated parmesan cheese, divided
- ½ cup butter melted, use salted or unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes crushed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350° F (175° C) and lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking dish or place a piece of parchment on a baking sheet.
- Slice Hawaiian rolls in half, making sure the bottom half is slightly thicker than the top half, do not pull apart. Put the bottom half of the buns in the baking dish and spread the pizza sauce evenly over them.
- Add half the shredded mozzarella cheese, and then place the pepperoni in an even layer over the top of the cheese. Sprinkle Italian seasoning over the top.
- Add the other half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and ¼ cup of the Parmesan cheese and place the top half of the buns on top.
- Stir the garlic powder into the melted butter until well combined. Pour the butter glaze all over the tops of the buns, and spread with a pastry brush if needed to cover them with the sauce fully. Sprinkle the red pepper flakes on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15-20 minutes until hot throughout and the cheese is melted, remove foil and sprinkle remaining 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese on top and bake for 5-10 minutes until toasted on top.
- Garnish with additional red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and fresh basil if desired.
Notes
- Store leftover sliders in airtight containers refrigerated for 3-5 days; reheat before serving.
- Freeze assembled sliders tightly wrapped before or after baking for up to three months to preserve freshness.
- When baking from frozen, remove plastic wrap, cover with foil, bake 20 minutes covered and then 10-20 minutes uncovered.
- Thaw frozen sliders overnight in the refrigerator before reheating for best results.
- Reheat in an air fryer at 350°F for about 5 minutes, covering with foil if browning too quickly.
- Add meats like cooked Italian sausage or veggies like onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms for variations.
- Alternate sauces such as Alfredo or pesto can be used instead of pizza sauce for different flavors.
