Easy Quick Pickled Radishes

Easy Quick Pickled Radishes are made by slicing radishes and combining them with sliced onions, garlic cloves, bay leaves, brown sugar, and white vinegar in a mason jar. After shaking and refrigerating for about two hours, the radishes develop a tangy, mildly sweet pickled flavor. The onions and garlic add depth but need longer to mellow fully. This makes a crunchy, slightly sweet condiment that brightens dishes.

Description

This recipe involves layering sliced radishes with sliced onions, whole peeled garlic cloves, and dried bay leaves in a glass jar. The mixture is then covered with white vinegar and brown sugar before sealing and shaking to combine flavors. Refrigeration for around two hours pickles the radishes enough for a crisp, tangy texture while imparting a touch of sweetness. The onions and garlic provide aromatic notes but require more time to fully pickle.

The quick pickled radishes are useful as a crunchy condiment or topping, adding acidity and brightness to meals. Slicing the radishes thinly helps them absorb the vinegar faster and soften slightly. The use of glass jars prevents flavor absorption or reaction during pickling.

For best flavor from onions and garlic, allow at least 16 hours of pickling. Using a sharp knife or mandoline aids in evenly thin slicing for optimal pickling. These radishes keep well refrigerated for several days.
