Easy Sausage Balls
Description
This recipe mixes bulk sweet pork sausage with shredded cheddar cheese, softened cream cheese, pancake mix, milk, Italian seasoning, and seasoning of salt and pepper. The batter is shaped into one-inch balls spaced apart to bake evenly at 350°F for about 20 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned. Applying melted butter to the finished sausage balls enhances moisture and shine.
The sausage balls offer a tender, cheesy bite with herbaceous notes from Italian seasoning. The use of boxed pancake mix contributes to the binding and a soft texture without requiring separate flour and leavening agents. Serving with garlic or chipotle aioli provides contrasting creamy and spicy elements.
If pancake mix is unavailable, a homemade blend combining flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar can be used as a substitute to maintain texture and rising effect.
