Easy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

Easy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham combines thinly sliced potatoes layered with ham and Gruyere cheese, baked in heavy cream for a creamy, tender dish. The ham adds savory meaty flavor while the Gruyere imparts a mild nuttiness, creating a rich texture with a golden crust. This recipe is ideal for a comforting side or light main meal, especially when baked to a golden top with tender potatoes beneath.

Description

Easy Scalloped Potatoes and Ham features layers of thin potato slices, diced ham, and shredded Gruyere cheese, all seasoned simply with salt and pepper. The baking dish is generously buttered to prevent sticking before layering. Heavy cream is poured to cover the top layer fully, which helps create a creamy texture and meld the flavors during baking. The dish bakes at moderate heat until golden brown and tender, ensuring the potatoes cook through and the cheese melts into a cohesive topping.

The ham adds a smoky savoriness that balances the richness of the cream and cheese. The Gruyere cheese melts smoothly and provides a mild yet distinct flavor. This casserole works well as a hearty side or a filling meal paired with a fresh green vegetable or salad.

While the recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of cream, you may need to add a bit more to keep the potatoes covered, as uniform coverage is essential for even baking and creaminess. Serve immediately for warm, creamy texture and contrast.
