Easy Smoked Ribs
Description
The Easy Smoked Ribs recipe calls for two racks of baby back pork ribs seasoned simply with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Ribs rest at room temperature briefly before being placed on a smoker set to high smoke. Smoking occurs for approximately six hours, allowing the meat to become tender while absorbing smoke flavor.
The homemade BBQ sauce combines vegetable oil, garlic, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, soy sauce, chili powder, and Tabasco sauce. The sauce is simmered to meld flavors and a portion reserved for basting. In the final 30 minutes, the ribs are generously basted to build a flavorful glaze.
Serving these smoked ribs warm with extra sauce creates a satisfying dish where the intense smokiness balances the tangy, slightly spicy BBQ sauce. The preparation emphasizes slow cooking and seasoning to achieve tender, flavorful pork.
Ingredients
For the ribs:
- 2 racks baby back pork ribs about 4 lbs. (optional: we like to get the pre seasoned ribs from Costco)
- kosher salt
- black pepper freshly ground
For the sauce:
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic minced
- 1 ½ cups ketchup
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup Worcestershire sauce
- 3 Tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 ½ Tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Tabasco sauce to taste
Instructions
- Set the ribs out at room temperature 20-30 minutes before grilling. Season with salt and pepper. Then start up the smoker and set to high smoke.
- Place each rack of ribs on the smoker and smoke for 6 hours.
- About 1 hour before the ribs are done cooking, make the BBQ sauce and set aside a cup of the sauce in a small bowl.
- During the last 30 minutes of grilling time, baste generously with a small bowl of sauce. Serve warm with the remaining sauce on the side.
To make the sauce:
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, warm the vegetable oil. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add the remaining sauce ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Set aside. Pour some of the sauce into a small bowl for basting ribs.
