Description
Starting with flaked canned salmon, this spread incorporates whole or light cream cheese softened to room temperature. Adding liquid smoke infuses a smoky aroma reminiscent of traditional smoked salmon without the actual smoking process. A small amount of reserved salmon liquid ensures the spread remains moist.
Green onions provide a fresh, slightly pungent contrast to the creamy base and fish. The mixture is chilled for at least two hours or overnight, allowing flavors to meld thoroughly. The texture is smooth with small flakes of salmon dispersed throughout.
This spread is suited for serving on multigrain, sea salt, or herb-flavored crackers, making it a versatile appetizer. It can be prepared a day in advance to save time. The spread stores well airtight in the refrigerator.
Optional additions like hot sauce can be incorporated for a spicy kick. Keep refrigerated and consume within one week for best freshness and quality.
Ingredients
- 7½ ounces canned salmon
- 8 ounces cream cheese whole or light; room temperature
- 3 drops liquid smoke make sure you buy chemical free liquid smoke
- 3 oup spoons green onion red or white onions work too, sliced
Instructions
- Place the drained salmon (reserving 2 teaspoons of salmon liquid), flake the salmon with a fork.
- In a medium-sized bowl combine cream cheese, liquid smoke flavouring and salmon liquid, blend thoroughly.
- Stir in green onion then fold in the salmon. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Enjoy!
