Easy Sugar Free Stir Fry Sauce (Paleo, Whole30, Gluten Free)
Description
The sauce starts by combining coconut aminos, chicken broth, fresh minced ginger and garlic with tapioca flour as a thickener. It simmers over low-medium heat for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse and the sauce to thicken. Optional additions such as sesame oil, chili paste, and lemon juice add depth, heat, and brightness.
The result is a moderately thick, flavorful stir-fry sauce that enhances vegetables, meats, or fish without relying on sugar or soy sauce. The use of coconut aminos offers a soy-free alternative while maintaining umami richness. Fresh ginger and garlic provide aromatic spice.
This sauce can be used immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. It also works well as a marinade. Adding green onions garnishes and freshens the final dish.
To adjust thickness, extra tapioca flour slurry can be mixed in. Cornstarch or arrowroot can be substituted for tapioca flour if preferred.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup coconut aminos
- ¾ cup chicken broth
- 2 tsp ginger fresh
- 2 tsp garlic minced
- 1 tbsp tapioca flour or cornstarch
- ¼ tsp lemon juice optional
- 1 tsp sesame oil optional
- 1 tsp chili paste optional
- green onions for garnish
Instructions
- First, add all ingredients to a skillet over low medium heat.
- Simmer on low medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Once sauce has slightly thickened and reached desired consistency, remove from heat.
- Finally, either use immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
- Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
Notes
- To thicken the sauce more, whisk an additional tablespoon of tapioca flour with water and stir it in while cooking.
- Coconut aminos provide a soy-free, gluten-free alternative to soy sauce, but soy sauce can be used if preferred.
- Cornstarch or arrowroot powder can replace tapioca flour as the thickener.
- Sesame oil and chili paste are optional but add extra flavor and heat.
- Lemon juice adds a tart brightness but can be omitted.
- The sauce can be garnished with chopped green onions if served immediately.
- Use within 7 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- This sauce also works well as a marinade for proteins or vegetables.
