Egg Omelette Roll (Gyeran Mari)
Description
This recipe starts by whisking eggs with flour and milk to form a smooth batter that holds together when baked. The batter is poured into a lined pan and topped with sautéed vegetables along with chopped ham and part of the shredded mozzarella. Baking at a moderate temperature until edges set forms a thin egg sheet that is sturdy enough to roll.
After the initial bake, additional cheese is added and melted quickly before rolling the omelette from one short edge. The parchment paper is peeled away as the roll forms to keep the layers intact. Slicing the roll reveals a soft, layered appearance with a combination of egg, melted cheese, and savory fillings.
Gyeran Mari is best served immediately while cheese is still melty, providing a creamy texture combined with the tender cooked egg and flavorful bits through the roll. It makes for a bright and satisfying breakfast, side dish, or light meal option.
Ingredients
- 8 egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1 tomato finely chopped, medium
- 4 lices ham chopped
- 1/4 cup purple onion finely chopped
- 1 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Whisk the eggs with flour. Next, whisk in the milk.
- Pour the egg mixture into a 12 in. x 16 in. pan lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle the top of the eggs with sauteed veggies, ham, and 1/2 cup of the mozzarella cheese. Bake the eggs at 350°F for about 14 minutes or until the edges are nearly set.
- Top omelette with the remaining cheese and bake it for an additional 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
- Roll up the omelette while it's still hot out of the oven. Start at one of the shorter ends and peel off the parchment paper as you go. Place the omelette roll on a platter and cut it into slices.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the roll while the cheese is still melty!
