Eggnog Martini
Description
The Eggnog Martini is a festive cocktail combining high-quality eggnog with vodka and amaretto liqueur. The mixture is shaken with ice to chill and dilute slightly, then strained into a glass rimmed with corn syrup and cinnamon sugar, enhancing the aroma and adding sweetness to each sip. Optional garnishes like a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg and cinnamon sticks emphasize the traditional holiday spices. Starting with chilled glasses helps maintain the drink's cold temperature since it is served without ice.
The choice of eggnog is important, as its sweetness determines the cocktail’s final flavor; using a high-quality or homemade eggnog yields the best balance. The preparation can be easily doubled in a shaker for serving multiple drinks. The layering of flavors and textures from the creamy eggnog, nutty amaretto, and spiced rim creates a complex yet approachable martini suitable for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
- 3 ounces eggnog use the best quality possible
- 1 ounce vodka
- 3/4 ounce amaretto
- ice
- cinnamon For Rim
- cinnamon sugar For Rim
- light corn syrup For Rim, or caramel sauce
- cinnamon To sprinkle on for garnish, optional; or nutmeg
- cinnamon sticks For garnish, optional
Instructions
- Sprinkle some cinnamon or cinnamon sugar mixture onto a plate and set aside. Add a circle of corn syrup or caramel sauce to a small plate, then dip the rim of the glass into it. Take care not to apply too much or it will drip down the glass – though a little drip can look lovely. Next dip the syrup rimmed glass into either the cinnamon or cinnamon sugar mixture to create a rim. You may need to dip a few times to cover the syrup. Set prepared glass aside.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the eggnog, vodka and amaretto. Shake to mix cocktail. Strain into the prepared glass. If desired sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg and add a cinnamon stick for presentation.
Notes
- Use high-quality or homemade eggnog to balance the sweetness in the cocktail.
- Chill glasses in the freezer at least 30 minutes prior to serving for optimal coldness.
- This recipe can be doubled by filling the shaker halfway with ice for multiple servings.
