Eggs in a Basket

Eggs in a Basket is a breakfast classic where bread slices are buttered and have a hole cut in the center to cook eggs inside. The toast edges become golden and crispy while the eggs cook to your preferred doneness, resulting in a comforting combination of toasted bread and cooked eggs.

Description

This recipe involves buttering both sides of bread slices and cutting out a roughly 2½-inch center circle. The bread and cut-out centers are toasted in a skillet until golden brown. An egg is cracked into each bread hole and cooked covered to gently set the whites while allowing control over the yolk consistency through cooking time adjustments. Seasoning with salt and black pepper complements the dish.

The finished dish balances the texture between crispy bread edges and tender egg, creating a satisfying and nostalgic breakfast offering easily customized by cooking time.

Cooking times vary to achieve soft, medium, or hard yolks, giving options to suit individual preference.
