English Pigs in Blankets
Description
This recipe features individual breakfast pork sausages wrapped tightly in bacon strips with rosemary leaves tucked inside. The bacon is secured and then coated generously with maple syrup, which caramelizes during baking to add a subtle sweetness complementing the smoky, savory meat. Cooking in a moderate oven for 25 to 30 minutes ensures the sausages are cooked through and the bacon becomes crispy, creating a textural contrast. The addition of fresh rosemary adds an aromatic note to the dish.
English Pigs in Blankets are traditionally served as a side for turkey dinners, especially during festive meals, but they also make convenient party snacks when cooled slightly. Removing the toothpicks before serving provides safe bite-sized portions.
When wrapping, trim excess bacon and save for other dishes like soups or pasta for efficient use. The number of sausages per bacon strip may vary depending on strip length.
