Fall Spiced Old Fashioned

This Fall Spiced Old Fashioned cocktail blends warm spices like cinnamon, star anise, thyme, and cardamom with bourbon and aromatic bitters over ice. The cinnamon-spiced simple syrup adds a cozy sweetness, balanced by the orange peel and cinnamon stick garnish, creating a layered and fragrant drink ideal for autumn evenings or sipping by a fire.

Description

The Fall Spiced Old Fashioned centers on a homemade spiced simple syrup infused with cinnamon, star anise, thyme, and cardamom, which lends the cocktail distinctive autumnal warmth. Combined with bourbon, aromatic bitters, water, and ice, the drink balances sweetness and bitterness with a hint of spice. Garnishing with orange peel and a cinnamon stick enhances the fragrance and presentation.

Preparing the syrup by boiling and steeping the spices extracts their flavors thoroughly, and straining it ensures a smooth texture. This cocktail suits cooler weather and pairs well with hearty meals or quiet, contemplative moments.

Leftover spices from the syrup can be repurposed into a simmering potpourri with citrus slices, adding frugality and extended use. Stir cocktail ingredients well before adding ice to blend flavors evenly.
