Feta Cheese Dip
Description
Feta Cheese Dip combines drained feta cheese and sour cream or Greek yogurt blended until smooth and creamy. Olive oil is incorporated for richness and a silky texture, while lemon zest and black pepper bring bright, peppery notes. A small amount of salt can be added if needed, depending on the feta’s saltiness. Garlic chips are prepared separately by frying thinly sliced garlic in olive oil until golden and crisp; these add a crunchy contrast when sprinkled on top along with chopped pistachios and a pinch of red chili flakes for mild heat and texture.
The dip can be served immediately or chilled. It pairs well with raw veggies, pita bread, or crackers as a flavorful appetizer or snack. The creamy, tangy base combined with the crunchy, garlicky toppings brings complexity to this simple preparation.
If not serving right away, store the dip covered in the refrigerator for up to three days, adding the garlic chips and garnish just prior to serving to preserve their crispness.
Ingredients
- 200 g feta cheese 8 oz, drained
- 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- pinch black pepper
- salt to taste if necessary
For the garlic chips:
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 5-6 garlic thinly sliced cloves
For garnish:
- drizzle olive oil
- pinch red chili flakes
- 1-2 teaspoon garlic chips
- 2 teaspoon pistachio chopped
- pinch herbs fresh, like thyme if desired
Instructions
- In the bowl of a blender or food processor, add the feta cheese and sour cream/yogurt. Blend on medium speed continuously until mixture is creamy and lump free (about 1 minute).
- Drizzle in olive oil while blender is still running, until combined. Add the lemon zest and black pepper and pulse to mix. Taste, and if you need it, add salt.
- Transfer the dip to the small bowl you'll serve it in. Make your garlic chips if using (see notes below)
For the garlic chips (optional) and garnish:
- Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat until hot. Add sliced garlic and fry on each side for 1-2 minutets until golden brown, then immediately drain the oil and place garlic on a paper towel to remove excess oil. Let garlic chips cool.
- Just before serving, top the dip with a drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of red chili flakes, garlic chips, and chopped pistachios.
Notes
- If skipping garlic chips, add one crushed garlic clove to the dip during blending for garlic flavor.
- Store dip refrigerated and covered for up to three days; add crispy toppings just before serving.
- Adjust salt carefully depending on the saltiness of the feta cheese used.
- Use fresh lemon zest to brighten the dip without adding acidity.
