Fiery Habanero Hot Sauce
Description
The Fiery Habanero Hot Sauce is made by lightly sautéing chopped yellow onion and smashed garlic in vegetable oil until softened but not browned. These aromatics are blended with a sizable amount of habanero peppers, a Roma tomato, salt, white vinegar, and water to create a spicy sauce with both heat and tang. Optionally, the mixture can be strained for a smoother texture.
The resulting sauce carries the intense heat of habaneros tempered by the tomato's natural sweetness and acidity from vinegar. The preparation ensures a fresh flavor with a noticeable kick, ideal for enhancing the flavor profile of foods needing heat.
This hot sauce should be refrigerated after coming to room temperature and used within one to two weeks to maintain its vibrant flavor and safety.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 yellow onion chopped, medium
- 5-6 garlic smashed, cloves
- 9-14 habanero pepper stems removed
- 1 Roma tomato chopped
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- Sauté onion in oil for 5 minutes or so, stirring frequently, until it starts to soften. We don't want any color on the onion. Add the garlic and sauté for just a minute or two and turn off the heat.
- Add the onion and garlic to a blender with the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth.
- For a smoother hot sauce, strain it into your empty bottle, otherwise, pour the hot sauce into a funnel in your empty bottle.
- Wait for hot sauce to come to room temperature, then refrigerate. Store hot sauce in refrigerator and use within 1-2 weeks. Enjoy!
