Fish Fillet Sandwich with Homemade Tartar Sauce

The Fish Fillet Sandwich features breaded tilapia fillets baked until golden and served on hamburger buns with American cheese and shredded lettuce. Accompanied by a homemade tartar sauce blending mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, relish, and vinegar, this sandwich offers a mix of crispy texture and tangy creaminess. The breading is seasoned with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to complement the mild fish, making it a satisfying sandwich option for lunch or dinner.

Description

This Fish Fillet Sandwich involves coating tilapia fillets in a seasoned flour and bread crumb mixture then baking them in a hot oven until the crust turns golden brown and the fish is cooked through. The method includes using olive oil spray for a crisp finish without deep frying. Buns are toasted separately with cheese slices to provide a warm, creamy layer. Fresh shredded lettuce adds a crisp, fresh element to balance the sandwich.

The tartar sauce, made from a combination of mayonnaise, Greek yogurt or sour cream, bread and butter relish with its liquid, white vinegar, salt, and pepper, adds a cool, tangy contrast to the fish’s crispy coating. Once assembled, the sandwich layers fish, cheese, lettuce, and tartar sauce inside soft hamburger buns for an easy, handheld meal.

This sandwich is well-suited for casual meals or picnics. The components can be prepared in advance and assembled just before serving. Baking the fish instead of frying offers a lighter option without sacrificing texture. The tartar sauce can be chilled ahead to develop its blend of flavors, making this sandwich both practical and flavorful.
