Flank Steak Marinade Recipe (for Grilled Flank Steak)

This flank steak marinade blends soy sauce, olive oil, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, honey, mustard, garlic, hot sauce, and spices to infuse the steak with a complex savory and mildly spicy flavor. Marinating for at least one hour or overnight enhances tenderness and depth, preparing the steak for grilling to preferred doneness.

Description

The marinade balances salty, sweet, tangy, and spicy elements through soy sauce, honey, vinegar, and seasonings like cayenne, paprika, and red pepper flakes. Garlic and mustard add pungency and depth, while olive oil helps carry flavors and coat the meat. The flank steak soaks in this mixture to absorb the marinade thoroughly.

Grilling over medium-high heat ensures a good sear, usually about 3-4 minutes per side depending on thickness and desired doneness, referenced by internal temperatures from rare (125°F) to well done (165°F). Resting the steak after grilling lets juices redistribute, improving tenderness and juiciness.

Slicing the steak against the grain produces more tender bites. The marinade’s flavor complements the robust meat, making it a suitable choice for outdoor cooking or a flavorful weeknight dinner.

Temperature guidance is provided to reach desired doneness, with resting raising internal temperature slightly. Removing the steak from heat a few degrees before the target helps achieve ideal results.
