Franks and Beans (Beanie Weenies)
Description
The recipe starts by browning sliced hot dogs in a pan, allowing their fat to prevent sticking during cooking. Adding rinsed northern beans and a mix of spicy mustard, ketchup, molasses, salt, cooked bacon pieces, and brown sugar creates a flavorful sauce. Heating and stirring continue until the sugar dissolves and the ingredients meld together.
This dish offers a combination of smoky, sweet, and tangy flavors with the softness of beans complementing the savory hot dogs and crispy bacon. It is commonly served hot as a casual meal or side dish with simple accompaniments.
Ingredients
- 4 hotdog sliced
- 30 ounces great northern beans , rinsed and drained
- 1 tablespoon mustard spicy
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons molasses
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 Bacon cooked and cut into 1 inch pieces, strips
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet or cast iron pan over medium heat.
- Add the hot dogs, stirring until browned. They should have enough fat to not stick in cast iron.
- Stir in the beans, spicy mustard, ketchup, molasses, salt, bacon and brown sugar. Continue to heat and stir until all of the ingredients have combined and sugar has fully dissolved.
- Serve hot!
