French Onion Meatloaf with Onion Gravy

French Onion Meatloaf combines ground beef, caramelized onions, and an onion soup mix to create a savory, hearty loaf baked until cooked through. The accompanying onion gravy is a smooth blend of beef stock, milk, and caramelized onions thickened with cornstarch and seasoned with garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Together, they provide a classic comfort meal with deep onion flavor enhanced by a rich, velvety gravy.

Description

French Onion Meatloaf with Onion Gravy centers on a meatloaf made from ground beef mixed with caramelized onions, an onion soup mix, and seasonings like Worcestershire sauce and parsley, shaped and baked until it reaches a safe internal temperature. The meatloaf embodies tender, flavorful meat enriched by the sweetness of caramelized onions and subtle tang from ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.

The onion gravy complements the meatloaf by incorporating beef stock, milk, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Caramelized onions add depth, and the mixture is thickened with a cornstarch slurry. The gravy is simmered to a smooth, luscious consistency, balancing savory and mildly sweet notes to enhance the meatloaf without overpowering it.

Serve this dish hot with the onion gravy poured on top or on the side. It can accompany mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a full meal. Letting the meatloaf rest briefly after baking allows juices to redistribute for better texture.

For convenience, a store-bought onion soup mix can be used instead of making your own, streamlining the preparation without sacrificing flavor.
