French Toast Sticks
Description
This French Toast Sticks recipe involves cutting regular bread into manageable sticks after trimming the crusts to provide uniform shapes. The sticks are dipped thoroughly in a custard made from eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and cinnamon, which gives a balanced sweetness and warm spice flavor. Cooking the sticks on a buttered griddle results in a golden brown crust that lightly crisps while the interior remains soft and custardy.
The method encourages cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding and ensures even browning on all sides by flipping halfway through. Once cooked, the sticks are finished with optional toppings such as powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, maple syrup, or fresh berries, catering to different preferences for sweetness and texture contrast.
This dish is well suited to breakfast or brunch and appeals to those who enjoy a handheld variation of traditional French toast that is easy to share and dip.
